A real angler catches fish with sportsmanlike tools and proper methods, and handles them humanely. You do not have to forget during angling that fish are sentient beings to which we must not cause excess suffering. We have introduced some regulations (limitations) which serve the sustainability of the fish population.
We need your support so angling could mean fish catching with sportsmanlike tools and methods, humane behaviour, civilized pastime, relaxation in the nature, and the protection of the aquatic and waterside environment to more and more angler. ANGLING RULES AT LAKE TISZA 2016

1. A) The owner of an adult angling ticket is allowed to angle with not more than 2 fishing rods each equipped with not more than 3 treble hooks, and can catch baitfish with a square fishing-net not larger than 1 square metre. In possession of a regional ticket one can keep 3 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions, but only 2 from one species of fish (e.g. 2 carp and 1 tench, or 2 pike perch and 1 Volga pikeperch).The exception to this is Volga pikeperch as one can keep 3, but in this case any fish protected by quantitative restrictions cannot be retained on that day. On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep only 7 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. Anglers are allowed to catch not more than 10 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by quantitative restrictions.

1. AB) The owner of an angling ticket issued for adults over the age of 65 is allowed to not more than 2 fishing rods each equipped with not more than 3 treble hooks, and can catch baitfish with a square fishing-net not larger than 1 square metre. In possession of a regional ticket one can keep 3 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions, but only 2 from one species of fish (e.g. 2 carp and 1 tench, or 2 pike perch and 1 Volga pikeperch).The exception to this is Volga pikeperch as one can keep 3, but in this case any fish protected by quantitative restrictions cannot be retained on that day. On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep only 7 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. Anglers are allowed to catch not more than 10 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by quantitative restrictions.

1.B) The owner of a regional ticket with restricted licence issued for women is allowed to angle with only 1 fishing rod equipped with not more than 3 treble hooks, and can catch baitfish with a square fishing-net not larger than 1 square metre. In possession of a regional ticket one can keep 2 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions, but only 1 from one species of fish (e.g. 1 carp and 1 tench, or 1 pike perch and 1 pike).The exception to this is Volga pikeperch as one can keep 2, but in this case any fish protected by quantitative restrictions cannot be retained on that day. On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep not more than 7 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. Anglers are allowed to catch not more than 10 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by quantitative restrictions.

1.C) The owner of a regional ticket issued for young people (a person who has an angling licence and is at least 10 but does not turn 19 until 31 December of the given year) is allowed to angle with only 1 fishing rod equipped with 1 treble hook, and can catch baitfish with a square fishing-net not larger than 1 square meter. In possession of a regional ticket one can keep 2 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions, but only 1 from one species of fish (e.g.1 carp and 1 tench, or 1 pike perch and 1 pike).The exception to this is Volga pikeperch as one can keep 2, but in this case any fish protected by quantitative restrictions cannot be retained on that day. On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep only 7 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. Anglers are allowed to catch not more than 10 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by quantitative restrictions.

1.D) The owner of a regional ticket issued for children (a person who does not have an angling licence and is at least 3 but does not turn 15 until 31 December of the given year) is allowed to angle with only 1 fishing rod equipped with 1 treble hook. One can keep 1 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions. On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep only 3 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. One is allowed to catch maximum 5 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by quantitative restrictions.

1.E) The owner of a tourist angling ticket is allowed to angle with only 1 fishing rod equipped with not more than 3 treble hooks, and can catch baitfish with a square fishing-net not larger than 1 square metre. In possession of a regional ticket one can keep 2 fish/day from those protected by quantitative restrictions (e.g. 1 carp and 1 catfish, or 2 pike). On the day of angling and on the previous six calendar days one can keep only 7 fish in total regarding pike perch, pike and catfish. Anglers are allowed to catch not more than 10 kg/day from those indigenous species that are not protected by the quantitative restrictions.

2. Angling for species protected by quantitative restrictions is allowed to be continued after catching (keeping) the allowed quantity, but any fish caught subsequently shall be immediately and humanely be released.

3. During angling activity the angler shall have every document entitling its holders to angling (state angling ticket, regional licence and logbook) which only entitles the document holder to catch fish if he has an identity card with a photograph. At the request of the person entitled to check angling activity, the angler shall give these documents and allow his vehicle and packages to be checked.

4. The angler shall keep the logbook in accordance with the rules it contains.

The angler shall acquire the ownership of fish with its legal catching and recording in the logbook.

One mustn’t replace the previously caught (kept) fish with fish caught later!

5. Non-indigenous fish are not subject to quantitative restrictions, invasive species (e.g. silver carp, brown bullhead, and Prussian carp) shall not be released back into the water, the angler shall carry the caught specimen after leaving the water area. (The exceptions to this are those specimens that did not get hooked on the head as they shall be released compulsorily.)

6. One shall only use non-indigenous live fish (e.g. Prussian carp, moroko, etc.) as bait, if the bait has been caught from Lake Tisza.

7. It is prohibited to dismember the caught fish. You shall handle the caught fish so that the physical injury should not exceed the minimum necessary arising from the angling method. Those fish that are not desired to be kept shall immediately be released back into the water. Those fish that cannot be kept because of some restrictions shall humanely and immediately be released back into the water even if it is injured, sick or maybe dead. Caught fish shall be kept alive in a way causing no abiding injuries till their killing, or shall immediately be killed.

8. Fish caught (desired to be carried away) in a proper way shall be carried from the shore only after a fast and humane killing. Baitfish with a smaller body length than 30 cm can be carried away alive, but only in such a bowl which provides it with the necessary oxygen-containing water.

9. Rules concerning the specific closed seasons valid country-wide and the smallest sizes are included in the logbook. However, the valid smallest sizes at Lake Tisza are the following:

carp: at least 35cm, pike perch: at least 40cm, volga pikeperch: at least 30cm, pike: at least 50cm, tench: at least 30cm, burbot: at least 30cm, catfish: at least 60cm, tittlebat: at least 15cm

10. It is prohibited to catch (keep) catfish in the specific closed season (2 May-15 June) in the flushing flumes, and in the whole area of Lake Tisza between 1 January-31 March and 2 November-31 December.

11. On Kis-Tisza from the mouth of Eger-stream to the mouth of Laskó-stream, and in the water areas bordered by the bridge of highway No. 33 (bridge of Eger-stream), the Eger-stream, the Kis-Tisza and Poroszló dam, it is allowed to angle for predatory fish only with natural bait, spinning is prohibited.

12. Tolerance areas are included in the map attached to the regional ticket, and its borders are indicated with signs on the spot.

Tolerance areas for hibernating include the water area of Dühös-lapos. That is, the area bordered by the bridge of highway No. 33 (bridge of Eger-stream), the dike-reeve’s house in Ráboly, the sweep in Kereknád, and Bocskoros bridge. Every angling activity and stay is prohibited in this area between 1 January-28 February and 2 November-31 December.

Tolerance areas for breeding include the area bounded by the 12/1 mile marker of Tisza-tó dam on section located in Ráboly, the road bridge of Eger-stream between towns Négyes and Borsodivánka, the port of Tiszavalk, and the right bank of Nyárád-stream as well as the meeting of Nyárád and Eger-streams. Every angling activity and stay is prohibited in this area between 1 March and 15 June.

13. Between 1 November and 15 March it is prohibited to use sonar to catch fish in order to protect fish population under hibernation.

14. One shall angle between 7:00AM – 5:00PM in January and December, and between 6:00AM-6:00PM in February.

15. It is prohibited to angle in the area of the winter port in Kisköre and on the upstream barrier in a length of 300 m as well as within the 50-m radius of every artwork (including artworks regulating flushing flumes).

16. It is prohibited to apply any fishing method resulting in the fish is hooked not by its mouth. Every fish that are hooked outside and not on the head, or that have external injuries shall be released back into the water and shall not be kept.

17. Trolling is prohibited in the whole area of Lake Tisza (neither with electronic or petrol engine, or paddle, nor by wind or drifting).

18. Boilie fishing is prohibited in the whole area of Lake Tisza. (With the exception of those fishing spots occupied with a regional boilie fishing ticket with registration.) In the case of bank or boat fishing, the tackles shall only be thrown into the water from the shore or from the boat. It is prohibited to move away from the tackles after it has been thrown. It is prohibited to use a feeding boat.

19. There are no reserved fishing spots at Lake Tisza, spots can be occupied on a first come, first served basis. At the end of the angling activity the angler shall pull out and carry away the stakes serving for fixing the boats or the buoys indicating feeding spot. It is prohibited to mark fishing spot on the vegetation with a foreign material.

20. Spots designated – equipped with signs and numbers – for boilie fishing are exempt from point 19 (the list can be found on the webpage of Sporthorgász Kft.) and can only be reserved via our company. Anglers with a boilie fishing regional ticket shall be bound by the rules of boilie fishing in addition to the instructions provided for in this rule.

21. Spots designated for boilie fishing can be used by everyone, but if an angler with a -valid – boilie fishing ticket arrives at the area the other angler who does not have boilie fishing ticket shall step aside.

22. Another angler shall only be in the area between the boilie fishing spot and the buoy belonging to it with the permission of the boilie angler and shall angle from outside only with his/her permission.

23. It is prohibited to angle on garbage dumps! In this case, the regional ticket shall be withdrawn from the angler. The angler shall leave the fishing spot cleanly. To this effect, the angler shall carry their garbage, or shall place it on the freeboard in the bag purchased from Sporthorgász Kft. which will be carried away by the company.

24. The angler shall continuously illuminate his fishing spot and boat in a visible way after dark and in low visibility.

25. Fish marking helps fishery management. One shall only take the marking down from a marked fish if it has reached the smallest size. Please post or submit personally to Tisza-tavi Sporthorgász K. N. Kft. (5350 Tiszafüred, lot nr. 1442/50, postal address: 5350 Tiszafüred, mailbox: 76) the data including marking, the place and date of catch, the exact length of the fish, its maximum height, weight, and the angler’s name and address. Each submitter receives a gift, and 1 regional ticket will be drawn at the end of the year.

26. The regional angling ticket shall immediately be withdrawn from the angler who leaves his/her angle unattended during the angling activity. It is prohibited to entrust somebody else with the surveillance. If the angler leaves the fishing spot permanently, the fishing rod shall be made unsuitable for catching fish and the rig shall be pull out of the water.

27. Person entitled to fishery management reserves the right to prohibit the appliance of certain fishing methods or the angling itself – consulting the anglers and their representatives in advance – in the whole area of Lake Tisza or on any water space for an indefinite period. The company shall provide information about the enacted limitations on its webpage (www.sporthorgasz.eu), in a form of electronic newsletter, on boards in the ports, and on signs placed in the border of the water space concerned.

28. The regional ticket shall immediately be withdrawn by breaching the local angling rules.

29. Issues not covered by the angling rules shall be governed by the law on fishery management and fish protection, and the regulation issued to its implementation.

30. Please be sure to ride boats – between 1 February and 15 June – carefully without causing bigger waves in the flushing flumes in order to protect fish breeding.

31. We ask anglers who catch fish which must be released due to some limitations to change fishing spot or method.

32. We ask those anglers who release their preys back into the water to use barbless hooks as far as possible to minimize injuries caused to the fish.

The most important change is considered to be the introduction of boilie fishing to carp anglers with sportsmanlike rules.
